University of Toronto - Galbraith Lab
Our team undertook the complete renovation of the structural lab in the basement of the Galbraith building at the University of Toronto. We designed complicated underpinning of foundations for exterior building columns in order to construct an electrical room in the basement level. The roof slab of the electrical room was designed to be a loading dock for heavy truck deliveries. We were also required to relocate the existing 500 ton structural press, which proved to be a very challenging task due to its massive foundation that was designed to absorb the impact from the press. To accomplish this, and to avoid internal cracking, we had to design a special concrete mix and procedure for curing.
