Milman & Associates Limited was engaged by steel recycling company Triple M Metal to act as a prime consultant on an exciting environmental project at their Hamilton, Ontario facility that featured the largest steel shearing machine in North America.
The unique equipment supplied by Italian manufacturer Vezzani is capable of cutting through 200mm thick steel plates, H piles, I beams, etc.
The project involved foundations to support approximately 400 Tons of equipment, foundations for a rotating material-handling conveyor and a structural steel tower and concrete foundation to support a 5.5 Ton-capacity crane with a 16m-long boom. The hydraulic and electrical equipment that power the shearing machine is housed in a new two-storey concrete building (2300 ft2 footprint). The entire plant is operated from a crane booth on top of 7.5m-tall steel tower constructed on the roof of the building.
To protect the building from the wear-and-tear of the steel-handling operations, we designed a heavy-duty steel plate wall and roof that can withstand the heavy demands of the steel handling environment.
