Lions Gate Hospital- Design for the proposed Power Plant 150-foot-high Stacks
In 2017, Milman & Associates Limited was retained by HH Angus to provide structural engineering services related to the design and construction of three (3) new 150-foot-high new stack to service the power house building of Lionsgate Hospital in North Vancouver, British Colombia.
Milman participated in developing the geometry of the new three brunched stack, the design criteria, element sizes and overall general arrangement of the stack. It includes the stack configuration, overall dimensions, breeching connections and minimum required wall thicknesses.
The engineering team came up with the wind loads, the wind forces due to vortex shedding, and the corresponding factors used for the dynamic analysis. We built a computerized model and conducted finite element analysis of the three tied stacks to determine the natural frequency and mode shapes.
